Church and State

Separation of church and state is a popular phrase in society today. The role religion and government (God and government) play with one another is central to life in America. The ramifications of one position versus another are significant. If religion is allowed to be a part of government, then things like the Ten Commandments, the Bible and prayer are very acceptable in public schools, courts of law and other government facilities. However, if religion's role in government is viewed as small even nonexistent then these religious objects and actions can be eliminated.

Did our Founding Fathers support one view over and above another? What role did they see religion playing in government (state and federal) for our nation? Was this role to be identical or different at the state and federal levels?

Let's find out by looking at original sources from our Founders. The answers my be unlike anything you hear today!
